Moses listening to “Take Notice” by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson
“I’m a teacher, in photography.”
Fort Greene, Brooklyn
How do you feel when you listen to that?
“Clarity. You know, just breathing, breathing easy. It’s like classical music, so when you’re running it’s real harmonious and everything just flows. It’s good music.”
Did you select that or was it on shuffle?
“I just had it on repeat the whole time I’ve been running for like the past hour and a half. It’s on the second loop right now.”
Do you have the whole album?
“Yeah. It’s a remix of J Dilla music, but classical. And um, so like all ‘Stakes Is High’, De La Soul like rapping over classical music but it’s J Dilla. But it’s weird because J Dilla was sampling classical stuff, and then they’re like re-sampling a sample of a sample. You listen to Ahmad Jamal ‘Awakening’ and then your hear the beat from the De La Soul that was sampled by J Dilla but it was originally a classical beat. It’s just interesting. It’s good.”
